- Use same size boxes when possible<\/strong>\u00a0to aid with stacking.<\/li>\n
- Avoid packing items in plastic bags<\/strong>\u00a0as they are less sturdy and could trap moisture.<\/li>\n
- Fill each box completely<\/strong>\u00a0to prevent the top or sides from caving in.<\/li>\n
- Fill open box space with crumpled paper,<\/strong>\u00a0bubble wrap or other packing materials to protect odd shaped or loose items like glassware or toys.<\/li>\n
- Don’t fill boxes too full.<\/strong>\u00a0This may cause them to burst.<\/li>\n
- Don’t make boxes too heavy to move.<\/strong>\u00a0Use larger boxes for things that don’t weigh much and smaller ones for the heavy stuff.<\/li>\n
- Mark ‘fragile’\u00a0<\/strong>on boxes full of breakables.<\/li>\n
- Use the right type of box or packing crate.<\/strong>\u00a0For instance, use a heavy duty box for your books as this is less likely to break than a standard box.<\/li>\n
- Use cell kits<\/strong>\u00a0for glasses, stemware or knickknacks.<\/li>\n
- Use wardrobe boxes\u00a0<\/strong>and keep your clothes on hangers in storage and when moving.<\/li>\n
- Cover furniture with sheets or tarps\u00a0<\/strong>to protect them from stains, tears and scratches.<\/li>\n
- Stack books;<\/strong>\u00a0don’t stand them on end as this could damage the spines.<\/li>\n
- Stack plates on end.<\/strong>\u00a0Wrap dishes individually and place like sized items together. Nest individually wrapped cups together.<\/li>\n
